Stuttgart wasted the chance to make it three wins in a row as Vedad Ibisevic missed a penalty with the last kick of a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Marco Russ gave the visitors the lead in the 14th minute, but that advantage lasted only two minutes.
Timo Werner brought Stuttgart on terms and, after seeing a goal ruled out for offside, Ibisevic missed a last-gasp opportunity to take the Swabians into the top six.
The fixture was scheduled for Sunday afternoon, with the German Football League expecting both sides to be involved in the Europa League on Thursday.
That was not the case, though, with Stuttgart crashing out in the play-off round to Rijecka, although Frankfurt flew the flag for the Bundesliga in style in midweek with a 3-0 win over Bordeaux.
They did not show any of the strain of that match, though, with Sebastian Jung setting up Johannes Flum, whose volleyed effort was deflected past the post by Daniel Schwaab.
From the resulting corner, Anderson had the chance to head Frankfurt in front, but he sent the ball over from close range.
Russ then gave the visitors the lead in the 14th minute. Anderson this time made a better contact with a corner to head the ball to Russ, who sent the ball high into the top corner from close range.
Their lead lasted just two minutes before the hosts levelled with a similar goal, Christian Gentner this time providing the assist with a header for Werner to nod in at the far post.
Frankfurt had a glorious opportunity to make it two 10 minutes into the second half when Stefan Aigner's cross fizzed across the goal with Vaclav Kadlec unable to guide it in.
Ibisevic then saw a goal ruled out for offside before he wasted a gilt-edged chance to seal a third straight win for Stuttgart deep in stoppage time.
The referee awarded a penalty when Rode brought Ibrahim Traore down in the area, but the Bosnian striker, usually so assured in front of goal, sent the spot-kick wide.
