Stuttgart picked up their first point of the season in a lacklustre goalless draw against promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf, who are the only team in the Bundesliga not to have conceded a goal yet. Stuttgart, looking to make amends for their embarrassing 6-1 defeat against Bayern Munich last time out, started well and tested Fabian Giefer after just six minutes, the Dusseldorf keeper making a fine save to tip over a long-range shot from Tamas Hajnal. The visitors then went close themselves in the 22nd minute but Robbie Kruse's effort went just wide. Stuttgart were struggling to find a way through Dusseldorf's well-drilled defence, although Hajnal had another chance after 31 minutes but his shot went just wide. Dusseldorf also ventured forward but Dani Schahin was denied by Stuttgart keeper Sven Ulreich and then Oliver Fink shot wide. The hosts had a golden chance around the hour mark but Andrey Voronin sent his shot over the bar from four yards out. At the other end, Christian Gentner headed just inches wide after a corner kick in the 62nd minute. Stuttgart were unlucky not to take the lead in the 66th minute as Cacau's shot was saved superbly by Giefer. Dusseldorf had to replace their keeper with 10 minutes remaining as Robert Almer took over from Giefer, who had a bloody lip. However, Stuttgart could not really test the substitute keeper and had to settle for just a point.
