Foued Kadir's quickfire double earned Rennes a 2-0 victory and left them just two points behind Ligue 1 leaders Monaco. Kadir twice embarrassed defender Benjamin Andre as he struck in the 13th and 16th minutes to set up an untroubled 2-0 win for his side. They were dominant throughout and though they could not add to their lead, they never looked like being pegged back as Aboubacar Camara's late header over was hapless Ajaccio's best sight of goal. The opener came when Jonathan Pitroipa picked out Kadir just outside the penalty area and he shimmied past Andre before curling the ball beyond both goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and covering defender Ronald Zubar. Just three minutes later, he produced a repeat performance as he again went past the bewildered Andre and fired past Mexico international Ochoa. Burkina Faso star Pitroipa tried to get in on the act 10 minutes before half-time when he linked up with Nelson Oliveira and sent in a low shot which Ochoa saved. The second half started in a familiar vein, with Oliveira teed up by Julien Feret but finding Ochoa equal to his drive. Paul Lasne's drive flashed just past the post and Vincent Pajot also threatened with a 20-yard drive after good work by Kadir, but Ochoa saved again to keep his side in touch. They were unable to mount any form of response, though, with the only threat to Rennes' superiority coming when Stefan Popescu crossed and Camara dived on to the ball but sent his header over the bar. Rennes lie fifth, level on points with third-placed Paris St Germain, though the latter face Monaco on Sunday.
