Reading striker Pavel Pogrebnyak faces former club Fulham

Reading will be hoping Pavel Pogrebnyak can outshine his Fulham replacement Dimitar Berbatov when the two sides meet at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

Pogrebnyak enjoyed an impressive stint at Fulham in the second half of last season, but opted to join promoted Reading on a long-term contract in the summer. The Russian, who has scored twice in seven Premier League appearances for the Royals, was subsequently replaced at Craven Cottage by Berbatov. The former Manchester United forward has netted twice in his four outings for Fulham and manager Jol is pleased with how the situation worked out. Fulham have enjoyed a positive start to the season and, after losing their opening two away games, won at Wigan Athletic before drawing 2-2 at another promoted side Southampton in their last match on the road. With a return of 13 points from eight games to date, Jol will be confident that the Cottagers can maintain a position in the top half of the table. In contrast, Reading are still searching for a first win since returning to the top flight, but have drawn two of their three games in front of their own supporters. Brian McDermott will have been encouraged by his team's performances in general and will hope a first three points are finally on the horizon.Reading forward Noel Hunt could make his comeback from a heel injury for the game after training on Thursday. Royals boss McDermott must decide whether to stick with Alex McCarthy or recall Adam Federici in goal, while midfielder Jem Karacan is absent with a knee injury.Fulham winger Damien Duff is available for the clash at Reading after recovering from an illness. Midfielder Simon Davies is still sidelined with a hip problem and misses out. Otherwise boss Martin Jol has a fully fit squad to select from.
