    Port Vale v Barnet preview

Image: Shuker: Hopes to play in opener

Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Port Vale and Barnet at Vale Park.

Port Vale will check on Chris Shuker and Gareth Owen before they get their League Two campaign underway. Midfielder Shuker gave Vale an early lead against Burnley in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night before being forced off through injury at the start of the second half. Defender Owen missed the first round tie after he limped off during the early stages of last weekend's friendly draw with Tranmere. Ryan Burge replaced Shuker in midweek, ending a nightmare 12 months of injury for the midfielder and after impressing against Championship opposition, he may have put himself in contention for a start at the Bescot Stadium. Summer signings Darren Murphy and Richard Duffy will hope to make their debuts after not getting off the bench during the first round cup tie. Meanwhile, Barnet could add Mark Byrne and Barry Fuller to their squad for the opening League Two game. Midfielder Byrne, whose goal at Burton on the final day of last season helped the Bees avoid relegation, missed Tuesday night's 5-1 Capital One Cup defeat by Birmingham with a groin strain but is expected to be fit. Defender Fuller moved to Underhill from Gillingham earlier in the week but did not make the squad for the Birmingham match. Midfielder Curtis Weston, another recruit from the Gills, was involved against City and came off the bench as one of eight debutants. Boss Mark Robson has reported no new injuries following the trip to St Andrew's.
