Panathinaikos are in pole position to advance in the UEFA Champions League at Villarreal's expense.

Villarreal need an away goal at the Olympic Stadium

Panathinaikos are in pole position to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League when they entertain Villarreal on Tuesday. The 19-times Greek champions secured a 1-1 draw in the first leg at El Madrigal, meaning a goalless draw will be enough to see them into the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 2002. Both teams enter Tuesday's match in good form with Panathinaikos brushing aside Larissa 3-0 at the weekend while Villarreal tightened their grip on fourth place in La Liga with a 1-0 success over lowly Espanyol.

      Panathinaikos team news

Panathinaikos head coach Henk Ten Cate with be without experienced defender Giannis Goumas, who has featured in all seven of the club's previous Champions League campaigns, as he is banned following his booking in the first leg. Gilberto, Simao and Nikos Spiropoulos will need to tread carefully as one more yellow card will incur suspensions. Brazilian duo Gabriel and Cleyton should both be recalled after being omitted and rested from Ten Cate's 18-man squad that beat Larissa at the weekend. Vangelis Mantzios' knee injury sustained in the first leg against Villarreal has ruled him out of the contest while Marcelo Mattos should be available after returning from a thigh strain against Larissa.
      Villarreal team news
Villarreal manager Manuel Pellegrini is boosted by the availability of Joan Capdevila and Guille Franco following suspension. However, the latter joins Ariel Ibagaza, Marcos Senna and Angel Lopez within a booking of another ban. Lopez should be fit after shaking off a thigh strain to feature in their win against Espanyol while Javi Venta is touch and go to play due to a groin problem. Argentine defender Gonzalo Rodriguez is expected to miss out (thigh). Catch all the action from Panathinaikos' second leg clash against Villarreal live and exclusively only on Sky Sports 2 and HD 2.
