Torino kept up their pursuit of a place in Europe next season by following up their victory over Juventus in the Turin derby with a 2-2 draw at Palermo on Wednesday night.

Roberto Vitiello gave Palermo the lead in the 10th minute but Bruno Peres brought Giampiero Ventura's men back on terms almost immediately.

Luca Rigoni restored the Rosaneri's advantage with Maxi Lopez levelling and scoring another goal, which was ruled out, as the sides took a point each keeping Torino within three points off the top five.

Torino had spent a lot of their energy on the derby win on Sunday and Palermo were quick to exploit their tiredness, taking the lead after just 10 minutes.

A corner from the right was flicked on at the near post by Paulo Dybala to Vitiello, who stuck a leg out to lift the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

Their lead did not last long, though, with Peres stealing in between two defenders to turn Fabio Quagliarella's shot, which was heading wide of goal, into the net.

Josef Martinez had a shot tipped over the crossbar by Stefano Sorrentino as Torino went close to taking the lead, but it was Palermo who regained the lead with Rigoni volleying in from close range.

Torino showed against Juve that they are not a side to give up without a fight and that is precisely what they did once again, getting back on terms at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on the hour mark.

Omar El Kaddouri's cross from the right was met by Lopez, who beat the offside trap to convert from close range.

The very same combination led to Torino netting a third but, after consultation with his assistant, the referee ended Lopez's celebrations due to a foul by the Granata forward on Vitiello.

There were almost celebrations at the other end when Andrea Belotti tested Daniele Padelli, who responded with a fine save to earn Torino a point in Sicily.
