Two close-range headers from Craig Curran and Stewart Drummond earned Morecambe a surprise 2-1 win at play-off-chasing Oxford.

Two close-range headers brought Morecambe a surprise 2-1 win at npower League Two play-off-chasing Oxford. Craig Curran struck early in the match and Stewart Drummond snatched a 74th-minute winner by nodding in Lewis Alessandra's near-post corner. And victory was no more than Jim Bentley's team deserved as the U's lost for only the third time in 21 games. It was an explosive start to the game with two goals in the first four minutes. Curran put the visitors ahead on three minutes, stooping low to head in Danny Carlton's right-wing cross from seven yards after Clarke punched a corner clear. But 60 seconds later Scott Rendell equalised, drilling a low follow-up shot under Barry Roche's body after the goalkeeper had saved from Asa Hall. But that was as good as the first half got for Oxford as their passing often let them down. Both teams saw decent efforts deflected over the bar before the break. A slick move involving Liam Davis and Dean Morgan ended with Hall's shot diverted over the bar. And soon after, at the other end, Curran's drive from the edge of the box similarly deflected over after an Oxford defender got a block in. James Constable came off the bench to try to spark Oxford after they had fallen behind, and in the final minute Roche saved splendidly from Hall.
