Croatian striker makes loan switch

Srdjan Lakic has joined Hoffenheim on loan from their Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg on a deal that is set to run until the end of the season. It appeared as though a deal was dead when Hoffenheim declared that they were no longer interested in the Croatian. General manager Ernst Tanner claimed Lakic was too expensive, forcing the club to turn their attention elsewhere in their efforts to land a replacement for the Stuttgart-bound Vedad Ibisevic. A change of heart has seen them push a move through, though, with attacking reinforcements drafted in ahead of the January transfer deadline. A statement on the club's official website read: "Striker Srdjan Lakic is to join Hoffenheim on loan until the end of the season from Wolfsburg, pending a medical. He will wear the number 39 shirt in Hoffenheim." Hoffenheim's financial backer Dietmar Hopp earlier told the Rhein-Neckar Zeitung newspaper: "We are delighted to have found a solution which is advantageous for all parties." Lakic only joined Wolfsburg last summer, although his transfer from Kaiserslautern had been agreed before the arrival of their current coach Felix Magath, under whom the 28-year-old made only 10 appearances in the first half of the season.
