Dickov backs pacy Slew to shine

Paul Dickov has tipped new signing Jordan Slew to terrify defenders with his Olympian pace ahead of the upcoming season.

Slew, who can run the 100m in 11.2 seconds, has joined the Latics on a six-month loan deal from Blackburn only a year after Rovers paid £1million to Sheffield United for the striker. The 19-year-old struggled to break into Steve Kean's first team, however, and spent four months on loan at Stevenage in the latter half of last season. "Jordan will give us a physical presence up front as well as being lightning fast which scares defences," Dickov told the club's official website. "We need somebody with pace to stretch defences as well as scoring goals which Jordan will do. Jordan has a lot of potential and Blackburn regard him highly."
