Goalkeeper signs one-year contract

Brighton goalkeeper John Sullivan has signed a new one-year contract with the club. The 20-year-old has not yet made an appearance for the Seagulls but he has been encouraged by manager Micky Adams' faith in him. He is now hoping to put pressure on first-choice shot-stopper Michel Kuipers in time to feature against Crewe in the opening game of the season. "I didn't know if I would be offered a new deal as so many players were being released," Sullivan told the club's official website. "So for me it is an honour to get another year, but I don't really want to settle on that. I want to be in the team for the first game of the season, that's my aim. "The fact that I didn't get a chance at the end of the season has kicked me on even more to say this year I've got to take my chance. "Everyone keeps saying that I am a young goalkeeper, but this time next year I'll be 21 and I need to be playing games."
