Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne insists he is ready to make his England debut as Roy Hodgson’s side prepare to take on Slovenia and Scotland.
The 23-year-old was called into the squad for the recent European Qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia but did not feature in either game.
Clyne has continued to impress for Saints since those matches and was preferred to Liverpool’s Glen Johnson as he retained his place in the England squad for Saturday’s European Qualifier against Slovenia and next week’s friendly against Scotland at Celtic Park.
"It shows that I am getting credit for the good performances that I have been putting in," said Clyne.
"I've been given my chance now and I am going to make it count.
"I am ready for any game, really. If it is against Slovenia or Scotland, I will prepare myself and get myself ready for the game.
"I feel I am at the best of my ability at the moment. I am playing well and I am taking this confidence into the internationals."
Johnson has been overlooked by Hodgson in favour of Clyne and Calum Chambers, who won the battle for the starting berth last month, but Clyne will be looking to get the better of his former Southampton team-mate this time around.
"It is always good to have competition. It keeps you on your toes,” said the former England Under-21 international.
"We get the best out of each other. If he is doing well, then you've got to do even better and that's what I am going to try and do."
