Gradi: Our defence was excellent

Crewe boss Dario Gradi believes he can see signs of progress after his side's 2-0 victory over Accrington.

The Railwaymen lost their first four games, conceding nine goals in the process, but have since picked up - losing just one in five. Ajay Leitch-Smith scored the opener on 11 minutes at Stanley, with Byron Moore scoring the second three minutes later to leave Gradi happy. "I think we are progressing defensively," he said. "Some of our passing was woeful as we seemed almost frightened to attack in the second half but Rome wasn't built in a day. "Accrington were lively in the first half which we expected and then they launched a lot of balls into the box after the break but there was nothing really to worry about. "We needed a third to seal it, it didn't come, but we did match them and they are no mugs. Our defence was excellent with heading and clearing and we won the game with that, clinical finishing and team spirit."
