Boss Paul Peschisolido saluted his players as Burton celebrated their 100th Football League game with a 1-0 victory Crewe.
Justin Richards continued his stunning run of scoring form with the only goal of the game as Albion got the better of Alex for the first time in five attempts.
Richards struck his sixth goal in the last five matches in the 34th minute to take his tally for the campaign to eight already.
"As far as performances go, that's one of the best I've seen from us in my time at the club," said Peschisolido. "That's in terms of our composure on the ball, the amount of possession we had and the way we knocked the ball about.
"We passed and moved so well that I sat there in awe really at the end of the first 45 minutes.
"It didn't go quite as well in the second half but we still made chances and we kept a clean sheet, so it's a great day for us on a special occasion in the club's history."
