Addicks progress pleases Powell

Manager Chris Powell is confident Charlton are still firmly on course for a strong promotion challenge.

A 2-0 victory over Exeter saw the Addicks go level on points with leaders Sheffield United, trailing the Blades only on goal difference. It was the perfect response to Monday's televised 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday and The Valley chief said: "I am delighted because our last two home games we drew and we were ahead in both. "You always want to bounce back and as I've always said, if you pick up one point and then three in the next game, you are right along the way you want to be and that's getting two points a game on average. "It was a difficult game in many ways because everyone expects when a team goes down to 10 you are just going to walk all over them. That's never going to be the case. "Exeter have always played a decent style of football and they had a little 10-minute period in the second half where we didn't really get to grips with it. We rode that out and then a well-taken goal by Dale Stephens sealed it on the day."
