Manchester United ambassador Dwight Yorke believes Wayne Rooney will have an important role to play under new manager Louis Van Gaal

Sky Sports football expert Dwight Yorke has tipped Louis van Gaal to take Manchester United back to the top of the Premier League.

Van Gaal gave his first press conference as United manager on Thursday, 59 days after being named as David Moyes' successor, due to his World Cup commitments after taking the Netherlands to third place in Brazil.

Club ambassador and former United forward Yorke believes the Dutchman has all the experience and ability to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact at Old Trafford.

When asked how he thought Van Gaal fared in front of the British press pack, Yorke told Sky Sports News: "I thought he was very impressive.

"He's a man who's very assertive. He was very decisive in what he had to say. You could see he's a man who's been in that position before. He was self assured, assuring everybody out there.

"He highlighted in the press conference that wherever's he's been (it) has been the No 1 club.

"In Spain the No 1 club, in his opinion, is Barcelona, the No 1 in Germany is Bayern Munich. He's been there and everywhere he's gone his CV is very impressive. He's been a great success wherever's he's been.

More from Van Gaal Appointed

"He hasn't been at (one) football club for very long but when he goes there, neverless he does bring success. He's got huge respect from the players.

"(If) you look at his body language, look at everything he had to say, you'd certainly think you'd have to bring your 'A' game to this team if you're going to be part of his future going forward."
