Jamie Carragher believes Paul Clement has picked the right club in Derby County to start his managerial career.

The Rams appointed Clement as their new head coach on Monday following the sacking of Steve McClaren.

It will be Clement’s first managerial experience after spells as an assistant at Blackburn Rovers, Paris St-Germain and Real Madrid.

He also spent time as a coach at Chelsea, and Carragher thinks he is a good fit for Derby as they look to win promotion to the Premier League.

“Steve McClaren has done a decent job there over the last couple of years so there’s ample opportunity for Clement to try and get Derby back into the Premier League where I think he deserves to be,” said Carragher, speaking to Sky Sports News HQ from the Well Child Ed Chamberlin Classic golf day.

“The style of play will be different at Derby, but most number twos who have been that successful want to be number one and I think he’s picked a good club.”

Clement’s former club Real Madrid missed out on an appearance in the Champions League final this weekend after they were beaten by Juventus in the semi-finals.

But Carragher does not expect the Italians to upset another Spanish side in the final.

“I fancy Barcelona, they look the best team in Europe,” he said. “I watched them midweek in the Copa Del Rey final, outstanding again, and the front three is going to take some stopping.

“But Juventus were equally impressive in the Bernabeu. It should be a great game but I’m hoping for a Barcelona win because of Luis Suarez being there, a former team-mate,and I think Barca will just edge it.”
