Steven Gerrard is unlikely to be in the Liverpool team to face Manchester United on Sunday, according to former Reds defender Jamie Carragher.
Gerrard is preparing to tackle United for perhaps the final time in his career, but given the impressive form of his midfield team-mates, Carragher admits it is difficult to start the 34-year-old in the Super Sunday encounter at Anfield.
Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Carragher said: "Who do you leave out? Henderson, you don't leave out. Allen was maybe one of the best players on the pitch against Man City. I don't think he'll play Steven Gerrard.
"The team is playing well. They've been on a great run since Steven has been out of the team. Unfortunately, he'll know himself, when you go out the team and the team continue on a great run, it's hard to get back in.
"It's unfortunate for him but we've all been there towards the end of our career."
Gerrard has missed six matches in the Premier League this season, and Brendan Rodgers' side have won every one, scoring 14 goals and conceding just two.
