Drogba-esque performance by Demba Ba at Norwich, says Jamie Carragher

Demba Ba: a strong perfomance by the Chelsea striker

Chelsea picked up all three points against Norwich on Sunday thanks to an early strike by Oscar and late goals from Willian and Eden Hazard, but Sky Sports expert Jamie Carragher believes it was Demba Ba who played a key role.

Jose Mourinho was unable to select the injured and suspended Fernando Torres and gave Ba his second start of the season.

This proved to be an excellent decision by Mourinho, as the former Newcastle hitman provided plenty of hustle in Norwich's penalty box and offered the assist for Oscar's goal.

And Ba's strength and determination was compared by Carragher to that of ex-Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

"Ba making runs in behind was a feature of the game and that is a big thing that he's brought to Chelsea," said Carragher.

"His performance was Drogba-esque at times in the sense that he was really putting himself about and was quite brave."

"In the commentary Davie Provan said 'we almost gave him the man of the match' and I think that shows the impact that he made.

"His performance was Drogba-esque at times in the sense that he was really putting himself about and he was quite brave a couple of times.

"He almost scored in the first half and that's just something every fan needs now - a goal from a Chelsea striker."

Carragher was also impressed with substitute Willian's performance.

Hazard and Willian score late on

After setting up Hazard's goal, the Brazilian scored a delightful curling shot from outside the box to seal the points for Chelsea.

Willian signed from Anzhi Makhachkala this summer and Carragher says this performance might prove why the Blues bought him when they already have many talented midfielders at their disposal.

"Willian's goal was the pick of the lot but probably does put more of a gloss on the Chelsea performance considering how Norwich played in the second half," added the Liverpool legend.

"We've been asking a few questions about Willian and why Jose Mourinho brought him in, like 'where's he going to play?'.

"There are so many players in that situation - but if he brings goals and assists like today you'd understand why."
