Nigeria international is Middlesbrough trialist

Skysports.com understands that the African striker on trial at Middlesbrough is Nigerian international Bartholomew Ogbeche. The 26-year-old is a free agent after leaving Greek side Kavala. Before that he spent four years playing in Spain with Real Valladolid, Cadiz and Alves. He is best known for his spell with his very first club Paris Saint Germain - where he burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old in 2001. Branded as one of world football's brightest talents, he went to the World Cup with Nigeria the following year. His career with PSG faltered and he had stints with Bastia and Metz, before a season in Saudi Arabia, after which he moved to Spain.

Free agent

Last year he joined Kavala but left them earlier this summer to become a free agent and is looking to earn a move to England. He is understood to have played for Boro's development squad at Blackburn this week and scored twice in a 5-2 win. Tony Mowbray is now keeping him on for an extended look at him, with a view to offering him a deal. Boro are short of striking options and could offer Ogbeche a contract to help them bolster their promotion push.
