Hammers boss backing charges to come good

West Ham manager Avram Grant remains positive his side can pull themselves away from the Premier League trapdoor. The Hammers were minutes away from a morale-boosting goalless draw at title-chasing Arsenal at the weekend only to succumb to a last-gasp defeat. Alex Song headed home the winner with just two minutes on the clock to deny West Ham what would have been a richly-deserved point from Emirates Stadium. West Ham are bottom of the table after 10 games played with just six points, although Grant does not believe a major overhaul is required to turn around their campaign. The Israeli tactician thinks there are plenty of positives from their campaign to date and that they will secure wins sooner rather than later due to their good team spirit.

Little difference

"The difference to winning is not a big difference, it is a combination of the mental things and good things," explained Grant. "If, after two months, all the performances were very bad, it would be worse, but if we can take the performance together with the points it would be good. "I am sure that we can do it, I am very positive about this year. I saw that we had a good performance, we played well, we have fighting spirit. At the end of the day, it will come."
Positive
West Ham defender Lars Jacobsen is staying positive, focusing on the points they have picked up recently rather than their heart-breaking weekend loss. "Everyone knows we can play football, but sometimes in the past maybe we didn't fight enough," said Jacobsen. "We have to continue doing that. If we do, I'm sure the points will come. "I know there is a bit of a gap at the bottom now, but the bigger picture is two losses and three wins in our last seven games, so we have to take the positives."
