Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes settles for point after 1-1 draw with Partick Thistle

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes admitted his side were lucky to take a point from the Scottish Premiership game against Partick Thistle.

The Dons drew 0-0 with Thistle at Pittodrie to leave them seven points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic after they won 2-0 away to St Mirren on Good Friday.

"I felt we were dominated in the first 20 minutes of the game and we were unlucky not to score in the opening minutes,” said McInnes.

"However, we were quite poor today. It is quite out of character for us."

The visitors changed their formation in the 31st minute after striker Kris Doolan was replaced by Lyle Taylor and McInnes accepted his side struggled to adapt to the alteration.

"After they changed formation, I felt they caused us significant problems attacking and we never challenged them enough. I think it was a poor performance,” added McInnes.

“It was a bad day for us and we were lucky enough to take a point from the game."

Aberdeen face third-placed Inverness on Wednesday and McInnes is keen for his side to record a victory after drawing their last two matches.

"We need to make sure that we finish the season strong,” he said.

“Our aim is to finish at least second. We aim to improve after every match and intend to do so for Wednesday."

Partick boss Alan Archibald felt his side were unlucky not to capitalise on the chances they created at Pittodrie.

"We made some good changes in formation after the first half which let us become more dominant when attacking,” he said.

“I feel quite disappointed that we only took the point as I feel we deserved the three.

"I felt we gave Aberdeen as good as they gave us in that game or even better. I think we can take that performance forward with us into other games and progress from it."

Thistle are also in action on Wednesday, when they face league leaders Celtic at Parkhead.
