Sampson happy to keep hold of midfielder

Abdul Osman has pledged his future to Northampton Town by signing a new one-year contract at Sixfields. The midfielder has made over 70 appearances for the Cobblers since moving to the club from Gretna two years ago. Northampton boss Ian Sampson is delighted to secure Osman's services and expects the 23-year-old to be a key player in the coming season. Sampson said: "I am very pleased that Abdul has signed a new contract. "We were always keen to keep him at the club and I am very pleased we have reached an agreement with him. "He will be vital to the way I want us to play this season and it's good news he has signed his new contract." Meanwhile, Sampson admits he would 'have to think twice' about letting Steve Guinan leave the club due to his impressive form in pre-season. The veteran striker was made available for transfer at the end of last term and is believed to have held talks with several interested clubs over the summer. Sampson told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: "He's a goalscorer and the goals against Nuneaton the other night were two good finishes. "I would have thought that if anyone comes in for him now then we might have to think twice about it."
