Dack stepping down at Newport

Newport boss Jimmy Dack will manage the Exiles for the last time this weekend.

Dack, previously assistant to Justin Edinburgh, has been in charge since the former Spurs defender left for Gillingham but he has told the Newport board he does not want to be considered as a candidate to lead the side in League Two next season. An official Newport statement revealed that Dack will take charge of this weekend's clash with Oxford and then depart following the expiration of his contract. "We have been through some fantastic times together, and the club is now in a much stronger position than when Jimmy arrived, we all wish him well for the future," director Howard Greenhaf told the club's official website. Interviews for Dack's replacement are now at 'an advanced stage' and Terry Butcher, along with former Cheltenham boss Mark Yates, have both been heavily linked with the role.
