Holdsworth keen on Newport

Dean Holdsworth has declared interest in returning to manage League Two outfit Newport County.

The Exiles are currently without a manager following Justin Edinburgh's departure to Gillingham last week with assistant Jimmy Dack in caretaker charge of the League Two side. And Holdsworth, who managed Newport for three years until his departure in 2011, admits he would be keen to head back into the Rodney Parade hot seat. "As far as I'm concerned there isn't a job available until someone makes that phone call," Holdsworth told the BBC. "I'm obviously going to be linked with Newport, who are a club I respect and there are people there I really respect. "I don't know what the club are thinking. They know that I'd certainly want to talk to them about that position if it became available. "They've got a person in there at the moment who has taken control of that and who I fully respect." Holdsworth, who left Chelmsford City in November 2013, helped Newport to the Conference South title having hung up his boots after a short playing spell with the club in 2006/07.
