Edinburgh: It's a massive win

Manager Justin Edinburgh feels his Newport side answered their critics with a 3-2 win over Oxford.

Goals from Rene Howe, Ryan Burge and Chris Zebroski gave County their first win since Boxing Day. James Constable had given Oxford the lead and Alfie Potter's goal three minutes from the end set up a nervous finish for County but Edinburgh was delighted with his side's performance. He said: "It was a massive win and thoroughly deserved. I don't think people realise that in our last 11 games, nine of them have been away from home. "It's been a tough time for the football club but the players have been fantastic. "We've been laughed at because of our pitch but we love playing here, the crowd were great and we gave them a performance. "Our last game at home was a defeat against Northampton so it was important we showed a response to that. It was all about the performance and we played with a real intensity and controlled the game. "Of course you are worried when you go behind but that was the first time they had been in our half. "We had started so well and really did have a foothold in the game. "I have to give credit to my players because they scored right on the stroke of half-time and then took that momentum into the second half. We scored some excellent goals and really deserved to take all three points. "It puts us in a good position in the league and we have four home games coming up now that we have to capitalise on. "No one likes coming here because our home form is fantastic and we have to make that count over the next few weeks."
