Mansfield have completed the signing of striker Billy Kee on loan from League One Scunthorpe.

Former Leicester trainee Kee has joined the Stags on a deal until the end of the season and he could make his debut against his former club Burton at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday. Mansfield manager Adam Murray claims to have fought off interest from other League Two rivals to sign the 24-year-old. "Billy has been much sought after in this transfer window by other League Two clubs, positioned higher in the table than ourselves," Murray told the club's official website. "For a while now, we have been in much need of a proven 'fox in the box' at this level and Billy is someone who has consistently scored goals throughout his career. "He is proven at this level and understands what it takes to win. He is a strong character, and after talking to a lot of people in the game, he is exactly what we need right now." Prior to signing for League One side Scunthorpe in August last year, Kee enjoyed a prolific three-year spell at Burton - scoring 39 goals in 99 league appearances for the Brewers. His 14 goals last season helped Albion reach the League Two play-off final, where they lost out to Fleetwood at Wembley. Kee has also enjoyed spells at Accrington and Torquay and has international honours with Northern Ireland at both Under-19 and Under-21 level.
