Beevers in the bag for Saddlers

Walsall have completed a move for versatile defender Lee Beevers after his release by League One rivals Colchester.

Beevers, 27, who can play anywhere across the back or as a holding midfielder, took part in the Saddlers' first pre-season friendly of the summer on Wednesday night - a 2-0 victory over Scottish side Morton. And manager Dean Smith has seen enough of the former Ipswich, Boston, Lincoln and Colchester man to offer him terms at the Banks's Stadium. "Lee is an experienced player who will bring versatility and stability to the team," said Smith. "He can play in a number of defensive positions, is good on the ball and a threat in both boxes. "He will be a valuable addition to our squad and has looked really sharp and bright in training over the past few days."
