Macclesfield Town chairman to step down at the weekend

League Two outfit Macclesfield Town have announced changes both on and off the pitch. Chairman Rob Bickerton is to step down at the weekend, while several players have both signed deals and left the club. On the playing side, Izak Reid, Levi Reid and James Jennings have all signed contracts until the end of this season, with Jennings joining Altrincham on an initial one-month loan deal. Andrew Teague and Matthew Flynn have also signed on month-to-month deals but two players have left the club - Mick Jefferies has been released while Jimmy McNulty has turned down the offer of a new contract extension.

Challenges

Off the pitch, Bickerton has decided to step down as chairman after this weekend's game against Morecambe to seek new challenges. He told the club's official website: "I have been on the board for seven years and chairman for five, and I think it's the right time for me to seek new challenges. "Five years in a role like this is a long time and it's hard for anyone outside the football industry to realise just how time consuming it can be. "I would like to think that I leave the club in a healthier, more competitive position than it was when I joined the board. "There is no doubt that competing at this level in football is getting more and more challenging but we have a clear and sound financial situation."
Tribute
Director and major shareholder Bashar Alkadhi paid tribute to the outgoing chairman. "Rob has done a tremendous job as chairman of this football club and he leaves with the very best wishes of (my brother) Amar and myself, and the other directors. "He has helped us steer a course through often difficult times for the past five years and we have greatly valued his friendship and wise counsel. The club said it will make an announcement shortly concerning the chairman position.
