Manchester City Women’s duo Jill Scott and Toni Duggan are thrilled they will be joined at the club next season by England team-mate Lucy Bronze.

Versatile defender Bronze left back-to-back FA Women’s Super League champions Liverpool Ladies last week to join City in the first major domestic transfer during the close season.

Scott believes her fellow Wearsider will bring a steely determination to a City dressing-room attempting to build on the success of winning the Continental Cup in their inaugural season.

“I’m really excited Lucy has joined the club. I’ve known her for a while and I played at Sunderland with her,” Scott told Sky Sports News HQ.

“I think she’s got strength on the ball and is very tidy and consistent in her play so I’m really pleased to be teaming up with her and hopefully she can teach all of a few tricks.

“She’s fairly quiet in the dressing room but is a really focussed character. I think a lot of the girls can learn from the sort of focus she will bring to our changing room. She also takes that with her on the pitch.

“It’s good to have lots of different characters in the changing room who deal with games and game-pressure in their own way. She performs in pretty much every game she plays in and that sort of focussed approach clearly works for her.”

Goal of the Season winner Duggan, who played with Bronze at club level when the pair were at Everton, insists the 23-year-old is an exceptionally talented defender.

“I’m delighted I’ll be playing with her next year and I think she showed (in England’s match with Germany last weekend) how good she is,” Duggan said.

“As a defender she is fantastically strong and she’s got unbelievable technical ability so I can’t wait to have her alongside me next season.

“She’ll bring a lot of qualities. She’s powerful, she’s quick and athletic. She’s got everything you would want in a defender and I’m just glad she’ll playing alongside me and not against me.”
