Scotland play host to Argentina at Hampden Park, live on Sky Sports 1 and HD 1on Wednesday. The match marks Diego Maradona's first game in charge of the South Americans. Here, skysports.com looks at their previous encounters:

ARGENTINA 1 SCOTLAND 1 -18 June 1977

A nasty affair that saw both sides finish with 10 men and both awarded penalties. A target throughout the game, West Brom winger Willie Johnston took an elbow in the the midriff from Vicente Pernia shortly after half-time. To his astonishment, both he and Pernia were red-carded. Don Masson then gave Scotland the lead from the spot, after Kenny Dalglish was brought down, but Daniel Passarella levelled in similar vein after Tom Forsyth was adjudged to have felled Oscar Trossero.

SCOTLAND 1 ARGENTINA 3 - 2 June 1979

Two years later and now world champions, Argentina let their football do the talking - largely thanks to the genius of the 18-year-old Maradona, who mesmerised Hampden with a virtuoso display. The teenager netted an audacious first goal for his country after a Leopoldo Luque double had put the visitors 2-0 up. Leeds winger Arthur Graham pulled a goal back, but Maradona had already stolen the show.

SCOTLAND 1 ARGENTINA 0 - 28 March 1990

Argentina were again world champions when they returned to Hampden almost 11 years later, but their crown was beginning to slip. They were also missing Maradona, although they had enough quality in their ranks to be considered favourites. The home side put that right thanks to Aberdeen defender Stewart McKimmie, who got the only goal.
