Midfielder to feature for reserves after recovering from leg surgery

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray believes midfielder Kevin Thomson is close to pushing for a return to first-team action. Thomson has yet to play for Boro this season after undergoing surgery on a leg problem in the summer, but is due to feature for the reserves on Tuesday evening. Though the Scotland international is unlikely to be available for the weekend's Championship game against Burnley, he is close to being involved in Mowbray's plans again. "The news on Kevin is really positive and hopefully he will be back in the group after the international break," Mowbray told the club's official website. "He has been on the training ground looking as assured as he always does. He is a really talented footballer and we are looking forward to having him involved back in the team. "I would like to think that after this two-week break he will be back in full training with the squad and pushing for a place in the side." Boro have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the new season and sit fourth in the Championship table after picking up 11 points from five games.
