Striker available on free transfer in the summer

Paul Heffernan is weighing up his future options with the Doncaster striker's contract due to expire in the summer. The Irishman is currently on a month's loan at Bristol Rovers after finding his first-team opportunities limited at Doncaster. Heffernan is out of contract at the end of the season and as yet no new deal has been agreed with Doncaster. The news has alerted a number of clubs to Heffernan's possible availability on a free transfer in the summer. Heffernan, who has also enjoyed a loan spell at Oldham this season, could only have impressed interested suitors with a man-of-the-match display and goal in Bristol Rovers' impressive 2-1 win over promotion hopefuls Charlton on Monday night. The 28-year-old's agent, Clive Hart, admits the player would be happy to discuss a new deal at Doncaster, but that he is also keeping his options open. "Sean O'Driscoll has been brilliant in allowing Paul to go out on loan as he understands his need to play first-team football even though he is coming to the end of his contract," Hart told skysports.com. "Of course if Doncaster want to sit down and discuss a new deal we would be delighted to speak to them. "As Paul is a free agent in the summer he is also willing to see what other options are out there for him. "He is enjoying his loan spell at Bristol Rovers and his display against Charlton reminded people of his talent."
