Pescara president Daniele Sebastiani has revealed that Marco Verratti was pulled off the transfer list because no club in Italy could afford him.
The creative midfielder was linked with Juventus and Napoli following an impressive 2011/12 campaign, but the newly-promoted Serie A club eventually announced that they will not sell the 19-year-old.
The Dolphins chief has now disclosed that none of the clubs interested in the teenager could cough up enough cash, and has hinted that he could be looking to sell the Italy Under 21 international next summer.
"In this market they [Serie A clubs] are not running with a lot of money," Sebastiani told Il Centro.
"So far all we have had proposed for Verratti has been player exchanges. The only plausible hypothesis would be a good offer from abroad.
"We'll see what happens. Right now, Marco is happy here and next year we can find clubs that will pay twice as much."
