Claude Makelele has been relieved of his duties as head coach of Bastia after less than six months in charge, the club have announced.

The former France international was handed his first managerial role with the Corsican outfit in May but won just three of his 13 games in charge.

Two of those victories came in the last four games as the team progressed in the Coupe de la Ligue but Saturday's Ligue 1 defeat to fellow strugglers Guingamp proved to be the final straw.

"The board of SCB informs all of its supporters and partners that from this day, Claude Makelele is no longer the head coach of SC Bastia," read a statement on the club's official website.

"As of this afternoon, training will be taken by Ghislain Printant and Herve Sekli until the appointment of the next head coach."
