Sevilla defender poised for Arsenal move

Arsenal have agreed a fee with Sevilla for defender Sebastien Squillaci, according to the Spanish club. After rejecting an initial offer from the Gunners for the Frenchman's services, Sevilla have now reached an accord with the north London club. The 30-year-old is currently travelling to England for a medical on Monday, and is likely to sign at the Emirates ahead of the transfer deadline next Tuesday. A statement on the Sevilla website read: "Defender Sebastien Squillaci is tonight travelling to London to have a medical at Arsenal, the club he will be transferred to after an agreement was reached by the two clubs pending the results of the medical." Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has admitted his intent to bolster his defensive ranks this summer after seeing William Gallas, Sol Campbell, Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre depart the club. Former Lyon centre-half Squillaci, who joined Sevilla from Les Gones two years ago, asked to be left out of the side for the Champions League play-off against Braga last week so he would not be cup-tied for European competition.
