Sheffield United have confirmed defender Paddy McCarthy will stay with the club until the end of the year.

McCarthy, 31, has made five appearances for the Blades since arriving on loan from Crystal Palace for an initial month at the beginning of October. The centre-half will not be eligible for the FA Cup. "We are obviously delighted that Paddy has agreed to come back until we conclude our 2014 league schedule," Blades manager Nigel Clough told the club's official website. "He has a young family based in south London, but Paddy loves playing football and has visibly enjoyed his time with us. "We are grateful to Crystal Palace for sanctioning the extension and to Neil Warnock for helping make the move possible again. "Palace plan to use him in the third round of the FA Cup, but for us to know he is available for all league games until the end of the year is fantastic."
