Loach focused on Bury

Scott Loach believes choosing to join League Two side Bury on a loan deal will be one of his wiser moves in recent years.

The 26-year-old stopper was called up to the England senior squad on a few occasions in 2010 but spent this week playing in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, a million miles away from the current international picture. After leaving Watford in 2012, Loach has struggled for playing time with both Ipswich and then Rotherham, who he joined this summer, and he this week elected to drop down two levels to play for David Flitcroft's Shakers. "I need to get back to where I was," admitted Loach. "I was fortunate to play a lot of games early on and I'm still very young for a keeper. If I can rack up another 200 games, whether it be here (Bury) or somewhere else... "My focus is here and I want to play as many games as I can. Similar to what Rotherham did a few years ago, I want to be part of something and the gaffer sold that to me." Loach concedes that his career-path so far has not proceeded as he had hoped and he admits particular regrets over the decision to join Ipswich. "I was at Watford and the new owners came in and they wanted to go down a different route," the ex-England Under-21 international explained. "If I'm honest I think my time was up at Watford. You can be somewhere too long and it was time to move on. "I think it was jumping in somewhere with both feet at Ipswich, they were a big club in the Championship and it lit my eyes up instead of actually taking a step back for a week or two and thinking what other options are out there to continue playing. "It was a bit of delusion there from my point of view thinking I was just going to go straight in and continue where I left off. "In the last 18 months I've not played consistently and that's what I want to do. No disrespect but it shows I want to play by coming to Bury." Loach retains hope that his Rotherham days are not numbered after just a pair of Championship appearances at New York Stadium. Adam Collin has been Steve Evans' preferred number one for the Millers but Loach aims to use his time at Bury to remind Rotherham why they signed him following last year's promotion. "They've just said go out and get games and that was that," said Loach. "They've been great to me and fortunately for them Ads has been playing well. They've got a top keeper there and you can't take a good goalie out when you're doing well. "They were nice enough to let me out on loan and it's a chance to show them that you've got a good keeper on your books. "But it's also a chance for me to show Bury this is what you can have and this is what you can do."
