Chesterfield have confirmed they held talks with Abdullatif Alnassar regarding potential investment in the club.

However, after exploring the possibility, the Spireites will not be pursuing the matter any further. Alnassar approached Chesterfield several months ago, attending some of the club's matches. But speculation increased when the Kuwaiti began posting pictures on social media of him and Spireites chief executive Chris Turner, before declaring on Twitter that he was in fact a director at the Proact Stadium. The League One club issued a statement on Wednesday to clarify their position, it read: "Following speculation relating to the ownership of Chesterfield FC on social media, the club can confirm that informal discussions have taken place with Abdullatif Alnassar. "Mr Alnassar made an approach to club chiefs with a proposal to attract investment from overseas. In order to further the progression of the club, any potential investment plan will always be explored. "Following the conclusion of the initial talks, no further negotiations will be held with Abdullatif Alnassar, who has no connection with the club in any capacity. "No further comment will be made on the matter at this time."
