Carlisle have extended striker Derek Asamoah's short-term contract until January 4.

Asamoah, 33, signed an initial one-month deal with the club and has scored twice in three substitute appearances. He struck a late goal in the home game against Burton and a late winner in the 2-1 victory over Oxford. "We know where we are with Derek and we've seen what he can bring to the squad," manager Keith Curle told the club's official website. "He isn't the type of player who wants a contract based on bit-part appearances. "He wants a little bit of stability and he now has an opportunity to really get going and hopefully build up his minutes on the pitch. "I know him really well and I signed him in the past when his match fitness was completely there. "He can cause all kinds of problems with his movement and know-how when he's firing on all cylinders. "He's showing us more every day and we're looking forward to seeing what he can produce as he goes on from here." Asamoah's former clubs include Northampton, Mansfield, Lincoln and Shrewsbury and he spent two years in France with OSG Nice before brief stints with Hamilton and Lokomotiv Sofia in Bulgaria.
