York City teenager Ben Hirst has signed his first professional contract with the League Two club.

The 17-year-old striker, who progressed through the club's youth system, has put pen to paper on a deal that keeps him at Bootham Crescent until June 2016. "It's great for the football club to see players come through the academy," said manager Russ Wilcox. "He's been in the system for five years or so, and I think it shows everyone what a great job the academy staff are doing. "He's still got lots to improve on, but it's great to have him on board." Hirst, who has been with the club since he was 12, has made five substitute appearances for the Minstermen this season.
