Wilson delighted with shock win

Barnsley boss Danny Wilson felt his deserved their 1-0 win at Sheffield United, which came courtesy of Sam Winnall's second-half goal.

Winnall scored with a firm header from Conor Hourihane's corner with 56 minutes on the clock and turned out to be the game's only goal to end United's impressive unbeaten run at Bramall Lane. United went close to scoring after only eight minutes when Craig Alcock's header was scrambled away on the line by goalkeeper Ross Turnbull. Blades substitute Marc McNulty had a great chance to equalise, putting a free header off-target after meeting Jose Baxter's free-kick. Wilson said: "It was always going to be a very difficult game for us, particularly after the run United have been on, but I thought that we coped with it very well. "It's a performance we've been putting together in the last three or four games, but we've been very unlucky. "Yes, we had to dig in at the end, there's no doubt about it, at 1-0 we defended for our lives. We got some great blocks in and the goalkeeper came to our rescue on a couple of occasions, but overall I thought we played very well. "Sam Winnall put away a great header in for the goal. I don't think Nigel (Clough) will be too happy with the marking. That's what he is - he's a predator - and it's one of the reasons why I brought him in. "We've been fantastic in recent weeks. How we didn't come away with three points from last week's game against Bristol City, I don't know. "I think we deserved that change of luck, particularly when balls were coming into our box. Coupled with a bit of luck, we had some great defending." Despite seeing his side go down to their first home defeat since the opening day of the season, Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough was not critical of his side's display. He said: "I was disappointed with the result, but not the performance. We started the game very well and could have been 2-0 up early on. "Our performance was at a very good level, but it was just that final ball or whatever that was lacking. We were not too unhappy with the majority of the game - just the result. "We got enough of the ball to (Jamie) Murphy and (Jamal) Campbell-Ryce, but we didn't quite produce that killer cross. "It is such a fine margin. They put a couple of corners in and we don't deal with it and you end up losing 1-0. Somebody didn't pick up and it was a free header. One little mistake can decided the game. "Marc McNulty had a free header, headed it over the bar and that's the difference. "With the effort and general performance, 95 per cent of it was very good again."
