Tisdale: Exeter are improving

Exeter manager Paul Tisdale feels his side are getting better and better after holding Luton to a 1-1 draw at St James' Park.

The Grecians made a terrible start by allowing Scott Griffiths to score with a header inside three minutes but they went on to dominate long spells of the game. Tom Nichols came off the bench to net the equaliser on 78 minutes from the penalty spot, while Exeter created enough chances to have won the game. "We were very dynamic and strong with a lot of end product, but there were times where we couldn't quite get on the end of some our crosses," said Tisdale. "You have to say then that maybe they defended well, but it was our game to take at the end. We didn't quite manage it, but it is another team that has come here as top of the league and not won and that's the best we have played. We beat Bury and Wycombe, but that is the best we have played by a distance. "We lived on our wits a bit against Bury and they had the lion's share of the game, but we had the lion's share against Luton and it shows you how well we are progressing. "Obviously it was disappointing to concede a goal in the first few minutes, but after that, we played really well and we passed it and we passed it with product. We are getting better. "Our three additions - Christian (Ribeiro), Graham (Cummins) and David (Noble) make a big difference to the side. We had no time to work on things in pre-season, but we are becoming a more efficient unit." Luton boss John Still was happy to emerge with a point despite losing top spot, adding: "We knew this was going to be a tough one. Bury and Wycombe have both lost here so that tells you the task we were faced with. "We wanted to try and counter-attack. We weren't great in the first half and second half we went two up front and matched up on a diamond and we were better. "We should have got something out of the counter-attack. We knew how they would play, switch the play diagonally and get down the sides for crosses. But overall a point away from home against a side like Exeter, I am delighted. "I thought we settled quite comfortably but they alternated between three up front and a diamond. That threw us out a little bit but we changed that at half-time and I was happy with that. "We could have done better with the ball in the second half. We had a few chances, but a point away from home against a side with a record not too dissimilar to us, you have got to be happy with that."
