Adams: I want risky football

Micky Adams insists his Tranmere will persist with risk-taking football after his first game ended in a 0-0 draw with Mansfield.

Rovers remain in League Two's relegation zone after a game of few chances, with Jake Kirby's second-half effort proving the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock. But Adams believes he's seen enough to suggest Tranmere can dig themselves out of a rut. "I want to win every game - I don't want to set this team up just not to lose. I think there has been a fear factor here but I'm not scared about losing games of football," he said. "It comes with the territory if you are a manager, so I'd rather see us trying to win a game than not lose one. There were a lot of encouraging signs, working hard individually but working hard as a team. "That is the important thing. At this level it's not about individuals, it's about the team. I saw things in certain areas that didn't please me. "I think I can improve them individually and collectively but it's a matter of getting them on the training ground now. I want to see the endeavour and willingness to work hard for each other." In a first half Rovers goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams had to be quick off his line to scramble a weak Marcus Holness back-pass clear, while Danny Johnson rifled over a free-kick for the hosts. Midway through the second half Marc Laird played a delightful chip over the Mansfield defence, only for Kirby to sting the palms of Sascha Studer with the night's first shot on target. However Tranmere failed to make the most of their pressure, before Mansfield striker Alex Fisher was forced off late on after a clash of heads adding to the growing injury list. Mansfield first-team coach Micky Moore said: "Simon Heslop has been playing with an injury and under normal circumstances you'd rest him, but it's been difficult. "Ollie Palmer and Chris Clements are probably looking at another seven days out but even if we can get one of them fit for Saturday, we'll try out best. "It was difficult under those conditions, we are lacking players but to come out with a clean sheet and two draws in away games is really pleasing. "Having Adam Murray back will be massive, he's our captain and a massive influence. He's assistant manager and that responsibility onto the pitch. "Tranmere have just got relegated and find themselves in a precarious position at the bottom of the league, but have got a new manager who will give them a lift. "It was always going to be difficult but on balance of how the night went, we will take a point and a clean sheet."
