Robins wants improvement

Mark Robins has promised to act after seeing Scunthorpe struggle to a 1-1 draw at home to Colchester in his first match in charge.

Veteran Rory Fallon got the Iron off to a flying start when he headed them in front after 20 minutes with his third goal in five games. Fellow striker Paddy Madden should have made it 2-0 before Colchester goal-ace Freddie Sears fired home a 33rd-minute equaliser for his seventh goal of the season. And with Scunthorpe then hanging on in the closing stages, George Moncur and substitute Rhys Healey both had chances to win it for the visitors. "It was a game we could have won - and could have lost," said Robins. "At the moment I have to be happy with the point, but a bit further down the line this is a result I would have been very disappointed with. "There were a lot of areas in the game where we could have done better. There are a lot of things we need to address. "We need to pass the ball quicker and be better with some of our decision making. But we also need a bit of help. We need to get some more bodies in to help us. "That starts from now, if the right players are available then we will do our best to try and get them. "But first and foremost we need to work with the players who are already here and try to help them." Colchester boss Tony Humes was delighted with his team's performance but desperately disappointed not to have won. "We had enough good chances to have won the game clearly," he said. "At the moment all the goals we are scoring are ones of real quality, but I would love to see us start adding a few scruffy ones too. "We have got to start to me more ruthless in front of goal and kill teams off when we have the chance - to be getting all three points instead of just one. "But I cannot be unhappy with the players, this was another good performance from them. "It was also the third time in a row that we have gone behind in a game and then come back to get something. "That shows the character of the team is growing and they have got to keep believing in the way we play. "We will always create chances, but if we want to climb the table into a position where we want to be, then we have got to start taking more of those chances.''
