Lamb signs for Chesterfield

Chesterfield have announced the signing of striker Carl Lamb on a non-contract basis.

The 29-year-old, who had spells at Liverpool and Chester as a youngster and recently played in Australia, impressed manager Paul Cook while on trial at the club. "Carl is a player we've taken a punt on," Cook told Chesterfield's official website. "He was about to be released but then he played in a practice game and scored four goals. "He's got a fantastic habit of scoring and the lads have taken to him. It's a little bit of a gamble and if it works out, that'll be fantastic." The deal has been ratified by the Football League after a delay in receiving international clearance.
