York facing striker crisis

York manager Nigel Worthington admits he may have to enter the loan market for a new frontman after losing Ryan Jarvis to injury.

Jarvis suffered an ankle injury in the Capital One Cup defeat to Doncaster on Tuesday night and he will join last season's top scorer Wes Fletcher and summer signing Jake Hyde in the treatment room. "I'll see where Hyde and Fletcher are first and assess those two," Worthington said. "If we need to then we'll look at it there and then. "Jake will probably be touch and go for the weekend. That's the game we're in, you've got to live with with these upsets and make the most of the positives. "We've got young Ben Hirst there who is learning the game and has only been in the door two minutes. He's had parts of two games already, we'll look at that and get a team to go out there and compete on Saturday." Worthington was pleased with the home debuts of wingers Anthony Straker and Lindon Meikle, who gave the Rovers defence a torrid time at Bootham Crescent. "They're capable of beating full-backs and that's why we brought them to the club," said Worthington. "We've been on at them for the last seven weeks, get at the full- backs, get in their faces, take the game to them. We have seen when they do that they can be a handful."
