Adams upbeat despite defeat

Manager Micky Adams took plenty of positives from Port Vale's pre-season friendly against Bolton, despite going down to a 2-1 defeat.

Goals from Matt Mills and Jermaine Beckford put Wanderers in control at Vale Park before Tom Pope pulled one back for Adams' men.

Adams was pleased to see the Valiants create several good chances on Wednesday night but knows the time must come when they start putting them away.

He said: "I think there are a lot of positives to take. We're disappointed to lose because winning becomes a habit, but looking at the chances created and chances they've had we were on top in that respect.

"There are no points on this one. We can take the positives out of it and work on the defensive frailties. Generally I'm very, very pleased.

"There was some good goalkeeping. Their keeper made some good saves by being in the right place at the right time as well as there being some poor finishing. But we've created the chances, and they were good chances."
