Chesterfield continued their pre-season preparations with a 4-1 win over non-league neighbours Matlock Town.
Armand Gnanduillet's header gave the Spireites the half-time lead before second-half goals from Sammy Morsy, Eoin Doyle and Dan Gardner saw Paul Cook's side claim the inaugural Autoworld Cup. Matt Andrews had reduced the Evo-Stik League club's arrears with a crisp 20-yard finish to make it 3-1 following a flurry of Chesterfield substitutions. Cook used 22 players, including several trialists, and the manager was also able to give Drew Talbot a run out after his troublesome groin problems. The Spireites pre-season programme steps up on Saturday when they travel to Shrewsbury, relegated from Sky Bet League One last season, before they make the short trip to Alfreton Town next Tuesday evening.
