Carlisle's new signing Billy Paynter has targeted an instant return to League One with the club.

The former Doncaster striker was impressed by manager Graham Kavanagh's plans for the Cumbrians and needed little persuading before signing a two-year contract. "There were other offers on the table but when I met the manager he really sold the club to me," Paynter told Carlisle's official website. "He told me how he wants to take it forward and it was nice that he wants me to be a part of that." Paynter, who has had spells at Swindon, Leeds and Sheffield United, added: "The fact the club is in League Two didn't really matter once I'd spoken to the manager. "He made it clear the aim is to get straight back out of the league. Hopefully I can be a big part of that and help move the club forward. It's a new challenge and one I'm really looking forward to."
